Colchester Hospital stained glass panel in light box in Gainsborough Wing
This 2.2m wide back lit stained glass panel is one of two panels mounted on the wall in the stairwell areas of the Gainsborough Wing, at Colchester General Hospital. The given theme was ‘Earth to Air’.
The lower ‘earth’ part of the panel was inspired by geological drawings of sections of rocks and landscape. The upper part is the blue sky of a hot summer’s day and the pink of a glowing sunset. A large butterfly represents natural life in the sky. The traditional leaded glass technique was used, with acid etching for details, together with some pieces of glass specially made for this project. |
